Looking backward...

Fulfilling the need

Like with so many things in life I was at the "Cross road" in my life, I had let my own health go by the way side. Then there was that moment in the bathroom looking at myself wondering, was that me in the mirror,  I freaked!  That was it, that's what it took for me. Here I was,  with this past athletic history, and, I was staring at a "Stay puff marshmallow man" in my bathroom.  In the next few days I turned my garage into a GYM, I started getting my life back (You may relate to this) The change was almost immediate.  In just four weeks I was stronger, leaner, and, I just felt great, after a while people were asking about my change because I was continuing to change physically. Because of this change, I was soon showing people how I did it, So I put together particular programs that worked.  However one of the aspects of change is the psychological adjustments one has to prep for. Its one thing to walk into a gym and pick up the weight, it is entirely different when it comes to passion, desire, imagination etc.  You need those things!  Have you ever watched a bodybuilder workout, there is a ritual that takes place.  A person needs to develop this, its what the bodybuilder has learned, incorporated over time into his philosophy, his routine.  Each person is different as to their approach of what needs to get done before they pick up a dumbbell, they may put hand powder on, they might wear gloves.  They walk a certain pace around the weights as if to get ready to pounce on their prey.  It is "Ritual movement" each person has their own.

Using a methodical approach to training is the key to success, if you fall off the horse it's not going anywhere, the horse will always wait for you to get back on, you just have to do it.  Exercise isn't, and shouldn't be complicated, right now there is this fad that is becoming pretty pervasive saying that,  you have to confuse you're muscles, train differently each day?  Try different things all the time, Really?  Tell me, who the hell has time for that, are you saying that all those successful athletes from before, and famous bodybuilders were never doing the same exercise's each time!

Constancy and balance is a key factor, exercise should also serve as a function of meaning in your daily life.  Muscle memory creates muscle maturity!  Working complementary body parts together, splitting your programs up, having proper recovery time is another strategy that shouldn't be ignored.  Doing Yoga, Tai Chi, Meditation etc, helps in becoming well rounded with you're weight lifting.
